The Research Council and NTNU invites you to attend a course on how to write an application to the European Research Council, ERC. The course is also relevant if you plan to apply to a later deadline. The tentative deadlines are 9. March for StG and 20. April for CoG. Five of these go to researchers linked to Uppsala University – two in the Life Sciences, two in the Physical Sciences and Engineering, and one in the Social Sciences and Humanities The Consolidator Grants are intended to help outstanding researchers to consolidate their position in basic research – often by building up their own research group. ETH Zurich was again successful in the grant process this year, with seven projects by ETH researchers receiving an ERC Consolidator Grant of around 2 million Swiss francs each. The ERC also strives to attract top researchers from anywhere in the world to come to Europe. It funds young, early-career top researchers ('ERC Starting grants'), already independent excellent scientists ('ERC Consolidator Grants'), and senior research leaders ('ERC Advanced Grants').

In 2020, ERC Consolidator Grant funding will help mid-career researchers consolidate their own teams and carry out innovative projects across all scientific disciplines: from making patent-free equivalents to existing medicines, understanding how collective memories and legacies of historic empires are created, to uncovering the molecular cause for some mammal’s long pregnancies. The ERC Consolidator Grants are designed to support excellent Principal Investigators at the career stage at which they may still be consolidating their own independent research team or programme.
